Look for increasing difficulty with daily tasks (bathing, dressing, cooking), frequent falls or hospitalisations, marked weight loss or poor nutrition, unmanaged chronic conditions, and significant carer stress or burnout. A comprehensive assessment with a GP, allied health professional or an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT/ACAS) can provide objective guidance. We can assist you to arrange a comprehensive assessment
-
Assessments determine eligibility and the level of support required. In Australia, this is done by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) for residential care and My Aged Care for home care packages. Assessors review health, mobility, cognition, social supports and living environment; they then recommend the appropriate package or residential care level.
-
Funding can come from government-subsidised places and packages, personal savings, income and assets, and in some cases family contributions. For residential care, there may be a means-tested Means Tested Care Fee (Refundable Accommodation Deposit or Daily Accommodation Payment). For home care, fees include an income-tested care fee and basic daily fees for services. A financial assessment will determine how much a person contributes.
-
Costs vary widely by location, type of care, accommodation choice and individual means. Expect a mix of government subsidies and client contributions. We recommend an early financial assessment and speaking with a specialist financial adviser or our consultants for tailored estimates.
-
Home care delivers support services in the person’s own home (personal care, nursing, allied health, domestic assistance). Residential aged care provides 24/7 support in a care home, suited to people who need continuous clinical care, higher levels of assistance or where home care is no longer safe or manageable.
-
Dementia care focuses on specialised environments, staff trained in dementia-specific approaches, structured routines, behaviour support, safety features (secure gardens, wandering management) and tailored activities to support cognition and preserve dignity. We can help you find facilities with accredited dementia programs.
